After last week hearing an overview of the findings of the Strategic Review, the Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education will get into what spokesman Kenn Marshall calls “the meat on the bones” today.
The final report prepared by the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems will be delivered today and will be posted this afternoon to the NCHEMS website. The report will provide the details and additional rationale for each of last week’s recommendations.
The report was critical of the State System’s processes, governance, and structures, calling them outdated. Marshall said many of the issues raised by the Strategic Review must be addressed at the legislative level. Marshall says the real work begins once the Board studies the report and decides how to address each item.
NCHEMS President Salle Johnstone praised Chancellor Frank Brogan and the Governors for their willingness to look at every level of the State System organization and beyond, saying they “recognized that decades of mounting issues had to be addressed in a new way and have taken action to bring them to the forefront.”
