Carl Filler, 91, of Homer City, PA died on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana, PA.
The son of James. B. Filler, Sr. and Carrie (Zimmerman) Filler Bouch, he was born on April 28, 1926 in Commodore, PA.
Carl served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Storekeeper (V) Third Class. He was awarded the following ribbons for his service: European Theater (one star); Pacific Theater and American Theater, as well as the Victory Medal.
Carl was a member of the Homer City United Presbyterian Church, where he had formerly served as a Deacon.
In 1955 Carl was hired as a machinist by Syntron. For thirty-six years, while the company changed over the years to Link-Belt; FMC Corp. and then FMC Technologies, he continued his career as a machinist until his retirement in 1991.
A member of the United Commercial Travelers, he had served as the past Grand Counselor.
Active in his community, Carl was a charter member of the Red Barn Sportsman’s Club; a
founding member of the Homer City Rifle Club and a member of the Indiana VFW Post 1989.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Carl and his wife Arla were former camp hosts at several campgrounds.
Carl loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was married to his wife, Arla Eulale (Mumau) Filler for sixty-seven years. Arla Eulale recently passed away three weeks ago on June 27, 2017.
He is survived by the following children: Carl E. Filler and wife Evelyn of Homer City, PA; Harold Filler of Homer City, PA; Thomas Filler and partner, Cathy Payson of Indiana, PA; Richard Filler and partner, Steve Tamsula of Penn Hills, PA and his son-in-law Ronald Blazosky of Holiday Park, PA and his grandchildren: Carlie Lynn Filler of Homer City, PA and Treena Petrelli and husband Will of Orange Park, FL and Harold Filler, Jr. and wife Amanda (Patterson) of McIntyre, PA and their mother, Theresa Luther of Indiana, PA and granddaughter, Brianne Blazoskey of Pittsburgh, PA.
Surviving great grandchildren are: Joshua Filler of TX; Kiersten Filler, Tony Filler and Leo Filler of PA; Tia Petrelli; Anthony Petrelli and Angelo Petrelli of FL; his sister Aldene Collesar of Blairsville, PA; step-sister Vivian Beer of Elderton, PA; brother-in-law, Dean “Diz” Mumau and wife Joan of Lovejoy, PA; sister-in-law, Patricia Mumau of Blairsville, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arla Eulale (Mumau) Filler; his daughter, Arla Blazosky and the following siblings: James B. Filler, Jr.; John Filler and Bessie Smith Lydic.
Family and friends will be received on two evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017 and again from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA, where a 3:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017. Interment will be at the East Mahoning Cemetery in Purchase Line, PA. Military honor will be observed by members of the U.S. Navy.
