Indiana County has given official notice of a public hearing on the 2017 Community Development Block Grant program. The meeting will be next Wednesday (July 26th) at 1:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Hearing Room at the county courthouse.
The purpose of the required hearing is to discuss the block grant program in general, Indiana County’s needs, the county’s performance in the past on projects funded by block grants, and –perhaps most importantly – the required Three-Year Community Development Plan of Indiana County.
County leaders anticipate receiving about $255,209 in 2017 block grants, plus another $7,675 in “program income”. At least seventy percent of the funds must be used to benefit low and moderate income service areas, which for program purposes is defined as 51 percent of residents in a specific area being in the low to moderate income level bracket.
The county block grant applications will be due to the state in October or November. A second public hearing notice will detail both the specific application deadline and the actual amount of funds that will be available to Indiana County.
