After four years at the helm of the State System of Higher Education, Chancellor Frank Brogan has announced he will retire on September 1st. He told the Board of Governors of his decision just before last week’s quarterly meeting. He said leaves behind “a system that is primed for the future.”
Brogan says the most important accomplishment of his administration is the ongoing Strategic Review, undertaken this year to assess and lead to changes in the way the system and the fourteen state-owned universities operate.
IUP President Michael Driscoll is the chair of the presidents’ council for the State System schools. He says Brogan’s “passion for students and his vision for (the System’s) ability to transform their lives through education guides every decision he makes.”
Brogan leaves as negotiators are preparing for next month’s first round of talks on a new faculty contract, and as State System leaders are reviewing last week’s Strategic Review recommendations. The Board of Governors will name an interim leader to take over upon his retirement as it begins a national search for his successor.
