The Penns Manor School Board agreed to apply for a grant for security equipment, and approved the use of a federal grant to maintain smaller class sizes in the elementary school at Thursday’s meeting.
The board approved a motion to grant permission to the Administration to submit an application to the PA Department of Education for the Safe Schools Equipment Grant. The grant would, if approved, fund the purchase of security cameras and online safety training for employees.
Speaking of security cameras, the board approved the purchase of two replacement security cameras for outside the Fitness Center. The cost of $483 includes installation.
The board also approved a contract with M.D. Sleppy Construction of Penn Run in the amount of $8590 to replace a section of sidewalk and curb located outside the band room entrance.
In other news, the board voted to accept and utilize Title II Classroom Size Reduction Grant Funds to maintain second grade class sizes instead of having two 33-student classrooms. The District would had to have considered furloughing an elementary teacher if not for the grant.
Lastly, several board members will meet on July 27th at 7 PM for a special voting meeting concerning the potential hiring of a Kindergarten teacher. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Thursday, August 10th at 7 PM.
