Mary Margaret Salerno, age 65 of Indiana, formerly of Home, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home.
She was born in 1951 in Punxsutawney to Victor M. and Mary Renosky Salerno. Mary Margaret was a former member of the Sacred Heart Church, Sagamore, where she was heavily involved with many ministries. Currently, she was a member of St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana. She was currently a member of the Sacred Heart Cemetery Committee.
She received her B.A.Ed from IUP in 1972, her M.A.Ed in counseling from IUP in 1974, and a Masters in Criminology from IUP in 1978.
Mary Margaret was a veteran of the Vietnam War and retired as a LTC. Additionally, she served in the US Army Reserve from 1971 until she retired in 1997.
She also worked as a caseworker for the DPW in Jefferson Co. for five years, and as a fraud investigator for the Commonwealth of PA Inspector General’s office for 30 years.
Mary Margaret is survived by her sister Barbara Brendle and her husband Bernard (Bud), Indiana; one nephew – Anthony Fortuna, Holland, MI; one step-niece and one step-nephew, Joseph Brendle, Plumville; Jean Miller and husband Joseph, Erie; one aunt and one uncle; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and many aunts and uncles.
Per Mary’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 A.M. at St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana. Entombment will be made in the St. Bernard Cemetery
Mausoleum. The Bowser-Minich Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
