Mary “Sis” Elizabeth (Hile) Ryen, 91, of Rochester Mills, PA died Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center in Indiana, PA.
The daughter of Edwin Marsh and Mary Agnes (O’Connor) Hile, she was born on June 15, 1926 in Ithaca, NY.
Sis married Lysle Eugene “Gene” Ryen on June 2, 1952 and they shared sixty-five years of marriage together.
She was a longtime member of the Church of the Resurrection, where she attended at the Rossiter site and had previously belonged to the St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Rossiter, PA. For a number of years Sis had served as a lector.
Sis was a graduate of Cornell University and received her professional training at D. T. Watson School of Physiatrics in Pittsburgh, PA.
Prior to coming to work in Indiana, PA, Sis was a physical therapist at the D. T. Watson Home for Crippled Children and was also employed as an instructor in the D. T. Watson School of Physiatrics.
In June 1952, Sis started the physical therapy department at Indiana Hospital, where she enjoyed working for decades.
Sis was a longtime board member of the Pine Grove Cemetery in Rochester Mills, PA, where she and her husband, Gene, helped plot out the cemetery and create the cemetery maps.
She loved being in the outdoors and she was an avid reader.
One of her favorite activities was spending time with her family surrounded by her husband, children; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sis is survived by her husband, Gene, of Rochester Mills, PA; her three children: Rick Ryen of Slidell, LA; Ted Ryen and wife Janet Molash Ryen of Marion Center, PA and Maureen Pounds and husband Dave of Marion Center, PA; seven grandchildren: Daniel Ryen and significant other Brittney Lynn Gary and Ben Ryen, all of Slidell, LA; Troy Ryen of Colorado Springs, CO; Gina Ryen-Force and husband Chris of Indiana, PA; Reagan Ryen of Marion Center, PA; Megan Shoop and husband Bob of Plumville, PA and Zach Pounds of Marion Center, PA and her two great grandchildren: Bentley Ryen of Slidell, LA and Olivia Shoop of Plumville, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Lorraine Hile Copeland of Beaufort, NC and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Allen Irvin and Amanda (Potts) Ryen of Rochester Mills, PA.
Family and friends will be received from 1-3:00 p.m. and 6-9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA, where a vigil service will take place during the afternoon visitation. On Saturday, July 15, 2017 a 10:00 a.m. funeral mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection in Clymer, PA officiated by Rev. Fr. George Saletrik. Interment will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Rochester Mills, PA.
