Indiana Borough Council last night rejected the bids for the Community Center building project, and will instead bid the project out piece-meal.
At a recent meeting of the Public Works committee, bids were opened for the whole project, and the bids came in over budget to fix the building that currently houses the Indiana Free Library and the Jimmy Stewart Museum. The borough has roughly $900,000 set aside for the project, but the lowest bid came in at roughly $1.4 million. Council approved breaking the project up into individual components and putting those components out for bids, saying it would be a more affordable option for the project, and give smaller, local contractors the chance to bid on the individual aspects.
In other business, borough council was informed that only 30 flood damage reports have come in concerning last month’s flash flood that hit central Indiana County. Gotshall is encouraging people to submit their damage reports as soon as possible. They’ve also received 30 requests for free dye tests for sewage backup. Gotshall said that the public works department will get to all the requests made, but it may take a while due to the manpower available to handle those tests.
