The Pirates broke open the game against the Cubs early yesterday, cruising to a 14-3 win at Wrigley Field.
Francisco Cervelli hit a grand slam and Andrew McCutchen homered in a 10-run first inning as the Pirates sent fifteen men to the plate. Josh Harrison collected three hits, including his 10th homer, and scored three runs. Jose Osuna had two doubles and two RBI.
Pirates starter Jameson Taillon was scratched from the lineup 25 minutes before the first pitch against the Cubs. He experienced flu-like symptoms while warming up. Chad Kuhl replaced Taillon and gave up one run over three innings.
Gerrit Cole will start Friday in Pittsburgh when the Pirates face the Cardinals after the four-day All-Star break. The Pirates are 42-47, seven games behind the Brewers, and play their next seven games at PNC Park against St. Louis and Milwaukee.
