In the Youth Legion playoff openers yesterday, top seed Armstrong beat Punxsutawney, 12-2, scoring seven runs in the 4th inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and four more runs in the 5th. Caleb Harriger went five innings for the win, striking out six.
In the other game, second-seeded SW Jack lost to Kelly Chrysler, 4-2 in eight innings. Danny Lauer hit a two-run single in the 8th, one of his three hits on the day. He drove in three of the Blue Sox’ four runs.
SW Jack loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 8th, but a grounder to second was converted into an out at the plate and the final batter struck out. Alec Petroff had two doubles for SW Jack and A.J. Ryan added a double.
Game Two in each three-game series is tonight, with Armstrong traveling to Punxsutawney and SW Jack visiting Brookville.
