The Pirates combined solid pitching from Chad Kuhl and some big hits from Josh Bell, Gregory Polanco, and Andrew McCutchen as they beat the Phillies, 6-3 last night.
Gregory was 4-for-4 with a two-run homer. Bell homered and had three RBI. And McCutchen was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Chad Kuhl tossed seven innings of three-run ball to pick up the win.
The Pirates head into the All-Star break with a three-game series starting today against the Cubs in Chicago. Trevor Williams gets the start for the Bucs against Eddie Butler. First pitch is slated for 2:20 PM at Wrigley Field, with airtime at 1:55 on AM 1160 WCCS and 101.1 FM.
The Brewers lead the NL Central by 4-and-a-half games over the Cubs. The Cardinals are 5 games back. The Pirates, at 40-46, are seven out, and the Reds are in last pace, 9 games behind Milwaukee.
