A former IUP student charged with killing his fraternity brother last winter has been granted an extension of time to file pretrial motions.
19-year-old Brady DiStefano is accused of strangling 20-year-old Caleb Zweig of Rockville, Maryland during a fight on February 3rd in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue in Indiana. A witness pulled DiStefano off the unconscious Zweig and applied medical aid until ambulance personnel arrived, but Zweig never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead early the next morning at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Distefano is charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault. District Attorney Pat Dougherty has said the ultimate disposition will most likely be third degree murder or manslaughter.
Judge William Martin has granted a defense motion to extend the time for pretrial motions to September 1st. Distefano is scheduled for Criminal Call on August 4th.
