Andrew McCutchen hit two home runs, as the Pirates defeated Philadelphia, 3-0, on Independence Day, a day after the Phillies shut out the Pirates.
The Pirates snapped a four-game losing streak.
McCutchen, who won National League Player of the Month honors for June, led the Pirates with three hits, including solo home runs in the sixth and eighth innings.
Jameson Taillon pitched five innings and picked up his fifth win in seven decisions.
Felipe Rivero, the fifth Pirates pitcher of the game, recorded his fourth save.
After exchanging shutouts, the Pirates-Phillies four-game series resumes tonight with the third game at 7:05 at Citizens Bank Park. Gerrit Cole will start for Pittsburgh, opposing Ben Lively of the Phils.
Pre game is at 6:40 p.m. on AM 1160 WCCS and 101.1 FM tonight.
In other Pirates news, Starling Marte is continuing to prepare to return from a PED suspension. Marte has been sent from Class High A to AAA Indianapolis. He went 0-3 last night. He can return to the Bucs July 18th.
