The holiday weekend is upon us and many people will look to celebrate America’s independence with parties, fireworks, and in many cases, drinking. That’s why PennDOT, State Troopers and Local Police are urging travelers to think twice about drinking and driving this weekend.
Deborah Cassedei of PennDOT said that the crash statistics for Indiana County in all of 2016 showed that out of 21 fatal crashes reported last year, 14 of them were alcohol related. 723 crashes were reported in all of 2016 in Indiana County.
State and Local police will be out on extra duty this weekend, as DUI checkpoints and roving patrols will go on looking for people driving under the influence, whether that be alcohol or drugs. If you are caught DUI, you will face license suspension, heavy fines, and possibly jail time.
We here at your Hometown Radio Station remind you to not drink and drive at any time, and if you decide to drink as part of your celebrations, designate a driver or find a way to get home where you aren’t driving.
