The Marion Center School Board approved the final general and ICTC budgets for the following school year, and approved the purchase of an updated elementary English language curriculum at tonight’s meeting.
The Board approved the final 2017-2018 general budget in the amount of $24,814,183 at a tax rate of 11.41 mils, which is a .36 mil increase. The final ICTC general budget was approved as well, with Marion Center’s share totaling $630,400 out of the overall member districts’ contributions of $3,456,900.
Additionally, the board approved the purchase and adoption of a new Elementary English Language Arts curriculum in an amount of $163,944.14.
Business Manager Richard Martini explained that the majority of the funds were reserved from the 2016-2017 fiscal year:
“We allocate $150,000 every year for curriculum. Well, this year we said ‘Okay, we’re not going to do it, so we’re going to set that money aside for next year.’”
The curriculum was decided upon by various administrators and teachers through a lengthy adoption process, and adheres to current state educational standards.
Lastly, two teachers were granted tenure in the District. Congratulations to Justin Hill and Sabrina Sandoval from your hometown radio stations!
