Travel was severely affected as flood waters hit not only major roadways but also railroad lines in the county.
When the flood waters first hit, many of Indiana County’s major roadways like Routes 422, 119 and 286 were affected, and many roads were closed due to the flood waters. Emergency officials were on hand to make sure that people did not try to drive through those areas as vehicles could be swept away very easily.
The waters also affected rail traffic in Armstrong Township as several rail cars were reportedly knocked off their tracks near Route 422. Reports also say that several train cars were spotted underwater.
Indiana County 911 is advising everyone to report flood damage to their local municipalities, not to the county’s 911 unless it is a true emergency. Also, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Indiana County from 2:00 AM Friday morning to 2:00 AM Saturday morning as rain is expected at various points tomorrow.
