A man was killed in Commodore and a suspect in that killing was arrested on Saturday.
State Police were called to a private home on Love Joy Road in Commodore around 12:48 in the morning and discovered a man and woman giving first aid to 23-year-old Derrick Michael Davis of Commodore, who was shot in the upper chest area. Through the investigation, troopers discovered that the incident started as a verbal argument between Davis and 27-year-old James Eugene Lantz, also of Commodore in front of a home at 66 Love Joy Road. Lantz allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot at Davis. Lantz fled the scene on foot after that but was found by police at 10:40 Saturday morning when he returned to the scene of the crime. He was taken into custody without incident.
As of right now, District Attorney Patrick Dougherty said it was too early to give the exact motive behind the killing, but he did say it was not drug related. He believes that the shooting was related to a domestic argument.
Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. declared Davis dead at the scene. Lantz is now facing charges of criminal homicide and is now in Indiana County Jail without bail. Overman said in his coroner’s report that funeral arrangements are being handled by the Long-Contres Funeral Home in Northern Cambria.
