Last Wednesday, Sears Corporation confirmed the closure of over 60 Sears, Kmart and Sears Auto Centers across the nation, including the Kmart in the Indiana Mall, and that has many local shoppers disappointed.
Richard Valyo of Indiana is a regular shopper at the Kmart in Indiana Mall, mainly looking for new clothes and any bargains. He said that he would not be able to shop at his favorite store elsewhere as he has no way to get to another Kmart store, but he would welcome any store that would take Kmart’s place.
Many others, like Jessica Detwiler of Clymer, said they were unhappy with the closure of Kmart as it removes an option for people to get needed items. Kmart was a popular stop for those wanting to use the layaway payment option the company offered every day of the year. Other Big Box stores offer layaway during certain times of the year. As of Friday, Kmart at the Indiana Mall will no longer accept new layaways.
There’s no firm date for the closure of the Indiana Mall Kmart, but that’s expected to come in September.
