It was a successful first day of the Jimmy Stewart Airport Festival as the good weather allowed many people to walk on the tarmac and get a close look at the airport and some classic planes.
Day one was filled with wonderful sights and sounds as planes offered rides throughout the day, aerial demonstrations, and last night’s featured event, the Hangar Dance, meant to
recreate the looks and sounds of USO dances held at military bases in the area, with Music provided by the Swingin’ Bopcats big band. Prior to the music, four Indiana County veterans from World War 2 were honored. Those vets were George Pearce, Joseph Krolick, Joe Dona and Albert Baraniak.
The festival continues today starting with the Civil Air Patrol breakfast starting at 8:00 this morning. The festival runs until 5:00 PM.
