Today is the first day of the two-day Jimmy Stewart Airport Festival.
The annual festival at the facilities off Airport road will give people the chance to get an up-close look at several planes, including a 1940 de Havilland, medical helicopters, and aerial demonstrations from the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation and the Lake Erie Warbirds. There will also be airplane rides offered by Goodfolk and O’Tymes in their classic biplane. There will also be candy drops from the airplanes on both days, recreating the parachute candy drops in Berlin.
The festival starts at 8:00 both mornings with the pancake breakfast from the Civil Air Patrol. Tonight will be a special “Hangar Dance” recreating the dances held at hangars and air force bases during World War II with the Swingin’ Bopcats Big Band providing the music. Doors open at 5:00 with a meal to come at 5:30.
