Edinson Volquez shut out the Pirates for seven innings, and the Bucs fell to Miami, 7-1, on Thursday night at PNC Park.
Volquez, a former Pirates pitcher, allowed just three hits, while his teammates got to Pirates ace Gerrit Cole for seven runs in less than five innings.
Josh Harrison led the Pirates with two hits. The Pirates broke the shutout in the ninth inning.
The series resumes tonight, 6:40 airtime on AM 1160 WCCS and 101.1 FM.
