A preliminary hearing will be held today for an Indiana man accused in three separate cases of pulling off numerous burglaries in the borough.
In one criminal filing, 21-year-old Takeal Dey Clemons is charged with five counts each of burglary, theft, and receiving stolen property for breaking into five Indiana Borough apartments and stealing numerous items while IUP students were away on Easter break in April. In a second filing, he’s charged with single counts of burglary, theft, and receiving in a case from March; and in a third, with theft and unauthorized access to a device for a February incident. Stolen items included clothing, food, a laptop computer and other electronics, and other small items.
Clemons confessed to police that he’d broken into the apartments, but was unable to describe clearly exactly what had happened because he said he’d drank to give him the courage to do it. He later attempted to recant his confession. He’s being held in the Indiana County Jail. The hearing today is scheduled for 2:30 PM before District Judge Guy Haberl.
