The Homer City Borough Manager offered updates on this year’s paving projects at tonight’s council meeting.
Borough Manager Rob Nymick reported issues with drainage on Main Street. Nymick explained that due to piping that had collapsed on Church and Main streets, 30 feet of 12-inch pipe was replaced and a catch basin was installed. The work was finished and black-topped today. Nymick estimates the Main Street paving project is 40% complete.
Drainage woes don’t stop there. Paving Canal Street as originally planned would cause drainage problems for three driveways along the street, so Nymick offered an alternative:
“PennDOT has given us approval to pave Filbert [Street] instead of Canal for this year. And that way I can get on Canal next year, and do a profile mill, and get it done the way it needs to be.”
In other news, police chief Anthony Jellison requested an increase in the monthly allotment full time officers receive for cell phone bills. An increase from $40 to $65 was approved to compensate for the new phone plan, which includes unlimited data necessary for wireless network hot spots.
Lastly, Chief Jellison reminds borough residents that summer curfew is 11 o’clock for kids under 18.
