The rains which struck the area yesterday afternoon continued through the night and were heavier than anticipated, and they brought with them flooding and power outages.
The Cherry Tree area and Montgomery Township were particularly hard hit with officials reporting several road closures, including Front Street in Cherry Tree, Route 580, and Route 219.
The National Weather Service indicates in its flood warning that municipalities across Indiana County could be affected by flooding. Overnight, REA Energy reported 902 members without electricity in 30 outages scattered throughout Indiana County. The largest outage was in the Brush Valley area, where power went out to 342 members at about 3:30 AM. Penelec reported 327 customers without electricity, mostly in the Penn Run and Glen Campbell areas.
The flood warning for Indiana County is effective through 9 AM.
