Indiana County Sheriff Bob Fyock says his office will be unable to issue gun permits later this week because of a new program being put into place in Harrisburg.
Gun licenses will not be issued statewide on June 1st, 2nd, and 5th. That’s Thursday, Friday, and next Monday. Fyock also says that if you wish to visit his office on Tuesday the 6th for a license renewal of to apply for a new gun permit, you should call first to confirm that the system is up and running. The number is 465-3930.
State police will begin the upgrade to the system that monitors gun licenses on Wednesday at 5 PM, and then spend the next four days testing the system to be sure there are no glitches. The updated system will be switched from a desktop-based to a web-based application.
The Pennsylvania Instant Check System, which is used to conduct background checks on people making firearms transactions, will not be affected by the upgrade.
