A public hearing concerning the transfer of a liquor license from outside of Center Township to be used by Sheetz at their Homer City location to sell beer is set for June 12th, but it may become a moot point.
Since 2016, Sheetz has been examining all options concerning acquiring a liquor license for the Homer City store, and were looking to transfer a liquor license into the township, and sought permission for the transfer from the Township Supervisors. In a split vote in July of 2016, the supervisors denied the transfer.
Now word has come that Sheetz is looking into purchasing the liquor license that belonged to Whitey’s Peetza and Eatery, who went out of business in April of 2016. Steve White, owner of Whitey’s, confirmed that he and Sheetz were close to a deal. He could not release many details, but said that a verbal agreement was in place, and are working to put the deal in writing. White hopes the deal will be completed by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, the restaurant will go up for auction today starting at 10:00 AM with the auction of the real estate, followed by the auction of several items in the building itself, including pizza ovens, tables and chairs, and cash registers. The auction will take place at the Whitey’s location in Coral.
