The Kovalchick Complex might not host many entertainment events in the summer months, but the venue is still plenty busy. Yesterday, KCAC staffers began the setup for a major convention for school students.
The Accelerated Christian Education International Student Convention will take place starting tomorrow and through next Thursday. More than 2,200 young people from around the world will attend an event that returns to IUP for the fourth time since 2011. Student delegates from hundreds of schools and homeschools which use the Accelerated Christian Education program are coming from the U.S., Mexico, Japan, Australia, Russia, Ireland, Kenya, Tanzania, and many other nations.
The students will participate in competitions in about 150 events in music, oratory, art, athletics, academics, and aspects of service. Approximately 4,000 young people worldwide qualify in regional conventions each year. The Accelerated Christian Education organization began in 1970 and is now in 140 countries, using a Bible-based curriculum.
The convention will have an impact on the Indiana County economy, with so many young people and adults in supporting roles. They’ll be staying in IUP’s residence halls.
