A Blairsville-Saltsburg Educator wished to dispel some inaccuracies in recent remarks made in the media concerning the district’s teachers union.
In comments made during previous Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board meetings, Nicholas Pantalone and Daniel McGregor said there is collusion on the part of the Department of Education and the Teachers union to keep the Blairsville-Saltsburg School District together instead of separating the district into two separate districts. During public comment, Joshua Cunningham, the high school librarian for the district, was speaking for himself when he said that he felt that there were inaccuracies in that statement, and that the implication of collusion is false.
In other business, the board had on the agenda approving the start of a therapy dog program in the district, but board member Holly Hall wished to have the matter tabled for now due to a lot of unanswered questions, especially concerning insurance and liability. The motion was tabled.
Finally, a special board meeting was scheduled for May 24th at 5:30 to discuss and vote on the tentative 2017-2018 budget. The board also rescheduled the June meeting for June 28th.
