The Indiana County Commissioners awarded a contract for a long-awaited project at the Jimmy Stewart Airport.
The contract was with Richardson Tree and Landscape from New Wilmington, and it will be to remove tree obstructions at the Jimmy Stewart Airport at a cost of $469,629. The airport has been waiting to get this project underway for the last two and a half years. Airport Manager Tom Robertson said some of the areas they will focus on include private properties on Airport Road, Sunset Drive and Ober Road. The project will get underway as soon as possible.
In other business, the board approved a memorandum of understanding with Fayette County to house their prisoners at the Indiana County Jail at a cost of $55 per inmate per day. Similar Memorandums were also given conditional approval for Lancaster, Schuykill and Westmoreland counties, which will be approved once the official paperwork comes in form those areas. The commissioners declared this week as National Tourism Week, and the month of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and National Bike month.
