An Indiana man who was charged this week in connection with a fatal shooting in March is due in court for Criminal Call today for another case. The charges in that case were for his alleged actions during IUP Homecoming in October. The charges this week were for actions during the so-called IUPattys.
19-year-old Matthew Ohler Jr., who is not an IUP student, is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault, and reckless endangerment, along with possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. The incident October 15th happened in the 900 block of Oakland Avenue. Police said Ohler was involved in the altercation and brandished a gun. Knowing that police were coming, he gave the gun to another person who left the scene, and Ohler fled, but was caught shortly after. No shots were fired during that incident.
When charged this week with conspiracy in connection with the fatal shooting of Carlos Recalde-Campos in March, the affidavit filed by Indiana Borough police said Ohler had provided the gun allegedly used by Matthew McKevin and noted a witness who told the investigators that Ohler “buys and sells stolen guns”.
There are more than forty cases listed for Criminal Call today, although some have already been disposed of. The session is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 AM.
