Iván Nova won National League Pitcher of the Month honors for April, but his first start of May was not so super.
Nova gave up four runs in six innings, as the Pirates lost to the Reds, 4-2, in the finale of their four-game series at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park Thursday. But Nova still didn’t walk anyone. He’s issued just one walk in 42 innings this season.
Gift Ngoepe, Francisco Cervelli and Josh Bell each hit a double for the Pirates, who fell to 12-16.
The team begins a brief, three-game homestand with Milwaukee Friday night.
