Indiana Borough Council approved a plan to revamp the borough’s parking system.
A list of 18 improvements was presented to the borough’s Public Safety committee at their last committee meeting, and that list was presented to borough council for their approval. Councilman Donald Lancaster said the improvements ranged from parking enforcement uniform improvements to upgrades to payment systems at the parking garage and at the meters to allow for electronic payments via app or credit card. He also said that one of the most important things would be to keep things so that those used to paying with cash can still do so.
The cost of the project will not exceed $250,000, and the funding will come from savings realized from the refinancing of the parking garage loan.
In other business, the issue of the possible closure of IRMC Park at North 7th Street was discussed during the public comment portion of the meeting. Richard Wolf of Robinson-Lytle Funeral Home was against the closure of North 7th Street, saying it would have a negative impact on his business, especially for customers coming to the funeral home and for employees taking a loved one from the funeral home, as Philadelphia and North 7th Streets are both utilized heavily to access their business.
No action was taken on the issue.
