Indiana County’s unemployment rate went down slightly in the month of March.
According to the State Department of Labor and Industry, Indiana’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate dropped one tenth of a percentage point to 6.1%. That ties Indiana County with five other counties with the 53rd lowest unemployment rate in the state. The statewide unemployment rate is at 4.8%, a decrease of two-tenths of a percent.
Comparing Indiana County to our neighbors, Westmoreland has the lowest unemployment rate with 5.2%. Jefferson County has 5.7%, Clearfield and Cambria County each had 6.1% along with Indiana, and Armstrong County had 6.2%.
Total non-farm jobs in the area remained unchanged at 32,100. Over the year, jobs have decreased by 800 jobs.
