The Pirates salvaged one win in a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs by beating them, 6-5, on Wednesday night at PNC Park.
The game made history as Pirates infielder Gift Ngoepe became the first player from the continent of Africa to play in a Major League Baseball game. He collected a single in his first MLB at-bat.
The Pirates scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the second inning off starter Jon Lester.
Pirates pitcher Tyler Glasnow started and left with lead after 3.1 innings, so he’s still looking for his first MLB win. The Pirates used six pitchers, including Tony Watson, who recorded his seventh save.
Josh Harrison homered in the first inning for the Pirates and Josh Bell hit a homer in the sixth inning. Both players scored two runs.
