The Pirates managed just five hits and failed to score in a 1-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night at PNC Park.
To make matters worse, the Cubs were allowed only two hits and scored their only run on a throwing error. The Pirates could not take advantage of a solid pitching performance by Gerrit Cole, who struck out eight and walked no one through seven innings.
Cole lost his third game in four decisions.
The Pirates try to avoid the three-game sweep with Tyler Glasnow on the mound Wednesday night.
