A man and woman from Indiana were jailed Tuesday after state police say he allegedly injected her with heroin as they sat in the back seat of their car with their infant son in his car seat between them.
It happened on Tuesday when police conducting a surveillance detail in Blairsville suspected drug activity was going on and followed the car of 25-year-old Nicholas Allen Murphy and 26-year-old Francise Michelle Reed. They pulled the car over in White Township and found the 6-month old boy lying in his unsecured car seat, unbuckled. Police say Reed admitted that she had put her arm underneath the car seat and Murphy had injected the heroin into her.
Police have not said with whom the baby is staying. Murphy is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia. Reed faces the same two charges plus an additional count of possession of a controlled substance. Both are being held at the county jail with bond set at $109,000 for each. They are scheduled for preliminary hearings before District Judge Guy Haberl on April 19th.
