The Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education will wrap up their two-day quarterly meeting today in Harrisburg. Yesterday, they met the representatives of the company currently conducting the review of State System operations.
Among the agenda items is approval of a $41 million bond issue for projects at three universities, including IUP. $2.8 million would be earmarked for the Elkin Hall improvement project, and $2.5 million would help pay for renovations to George P. Miller Stadium.
Elkin Hall has been closed since the end of the 2015 academic year, but the first floor is being repurposed as the new home of The Center for Student Life, which is currently in Pratt Hall, and the African American Cultural Center, which is currently in Delaney Hall. It will be known as the Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement. IUP has not announced specific plans for the rest of the building.
The largest item covered by the bond issue is a $15.4 million project at Slippery Rock.
