An Indiana woman was identified as one of the two people killed in a crash Thursday Morning on Route 28 in Allegheny County.
Reports say 24-year-old Clara Roberts of Indiana and 24-year old Sidney Cope of Coraopolis were killed in a head-on collision on Route 28 near the Heinz Plant on Pittsburgh’s North Side shortly after 3:30 AM. A Pittsburgh Public Safety Spokesperson said that Cope had gone into the opposite lane of traffic and collided with Roberts. Police are not saying at this time how Cope’s car got into the opposite lane, as the highway is divided by a concrete barrier.
The two had to be extricated from their vehicles and were taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where Roberts later died from her injuries.
Roberts recently had been advocating for Indiana Borough to be a “friendly community” towards immigrants after the travel ban executive order was signed by President Donald Trump. She was a member of the Refugee Working Group of Indiana, PA. A post on their Facebook page said that Roberts had just been accepted to NYU to study law and was on her way to the airport at the time of the crash. Roberts had also worked with The Open Door of Indiana.
