IUPatty’s was discussed by the Indiana Borough Council at last night’s meeting.
Indiana Borough Police Chief William Sutton went into some detail as to the duties that borough police performed during IUPatty’s weekend. Police received 220 calls for service, an average of 73 calls for service a day. Comparing that to the normal daily average, that’s a 258% increase. This includes the two shooting investigations that happened early Saturday morning. Councilman Gerald Smith said that the event itself is no safer than when it started a few years ago. He also stated that if one of the I-ACT committe’s goals was to reduce the risk of the event, “it’s failed.”
Council President Peter Broad said that a special meeting of borough council will be held soon concerning IUPatty’s day. No word yet on when that meeting will be held. There have also been meetings with landowners discussing the topic.
