PennDOT has announced that work on two bridges in Indiana County this week.
One of those bridges is the Route 22 Blairsville Truss Bridge . The bridge carries Route 22 over the Conemaugh River, Route 217 and a portion of the Norfolk Southern rail line. Project contractor Mosites Construction Company will start posting traffic control signs and they will start building a crossover so all Route 22 traffic between Jonnet Road and Dixon Street can be switched to one lane each direction on the Eastbound side while work starts on the Westbound side. Work on the project will consist of deck repair, bridge dam retrofitting, structural steel repair, substructure repair, drainage and painting.
Work on the $4.7 million project is expected to wrap up by September. The Truss Bridge Rehabilitation project is part of Act 89, which was signed in 2013 to fund road projects and bridge repairs across the state.
Work has also started today on the Route 240 bridge replacement project in Susquehanna Township. Workers will remove the existing two-span bridge over the Susquehanna river and replace it with a single-span structure, and they will also work on the bridge approaches, upgrades to the drainage and guiderails, new signs, roadway construction, and new pavement markings. Traffic will follow route 219 South to Greenwich Road, and continue on Greenwich to Grisemore Road, then onto Route 580 and back onto Route 240.
Work will be performed by Kukurin Contracting of Export. The $1.6 million project is expected to be completed in November.
