It’s been nearly 11 months since the death of a Homer-Center High School Student in a DUI crash, and the trial of the man accused of being behind the wheel has not started yet.
In May of 2016, Kai Hrabovsky was killed in a collision on Mount Zion road in Pine Township. The man who was behind the wheel of the car that crashed into him, Joseph Popovich of Homer City, is currently free after posting bail, but he faces charges of homicide by vehicle while DUI, homicide by vehicle, accidents involving death or personal injury, two misdemeanor charges of DUI, and several summary traffic charges.
We talked with Kai’s father, Daniel, last week and he told your hometown stations that he was frustrated with the pace of the legal process. He had hoped for a swifter pace for the justice system surrounding the case.
According to Popovich’s criminal docket sheet, he is scheduled for a motions hearing on April 27th, and will be set for a criminal call hearing on May 2nd. We reached out to Popovich’s attorney for the topics of the motions hearing, but he has not returned our calls.
