The Pirates played their last Florida game of spring training Wednesday and it didn’t end well, with the Philadelphia Phillies defeating the Bucs, 8-2.
Philadelphia tacked on four runs in the ninth inning to punctuate its win.
Gerrit Cole was roughed up, giving up three home runs in three innings of work, but Trevor Williams pitched four innings of scoreless relief and struck out six batters.
Jordy Mercer and Danny Ortiz each had two hits for the Pirates.
The Pirates are off on Thursday, then resume the exhibition schedule with a trip to Montreal Friday to play Toronto.
