Joseph Maggio, 86, of Homer City passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
A son of the late Peter and Carmella Zafuta Maggio, he was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Luciusboro.
Mr. Maggio attended school in the Homer City School District. He proudly served his country as a mortar man in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. During his military service he was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star and the U.N. Service Medal. Mr. Maggio retired from Fisher Scientific, where he was a foreman. He enjoyed going to flea markets and hunting and was an avid sketch artist, often showing his artistic side. Mr. Maggio also enjoyed watching the Steelers and Pirates with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as an exceptional and generous father and grandfather.
He is survived by a daughter, Gloria J. Anderson and husband Ken, of Indiana; a brother, Peter Maggio and wife Flossie, of Homer City; a sister-in-law, Goldie Maggio, of Stowe; nine grandchildren: Rachel Anderson, Julie Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Kasey Anderson, Courtney Ludman and husband Chad, Nathan Maggio, Melanie Maggio, Laura Maggio and Matthew Maggio; three great grandchildren: Teague Ludman, Ryker Ludman, Ashton Maggio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen “Janie” Cybak Maggio; a son, Joseph D. Maggio; three brothers: Paul Maggio, John Maggio, Sam Maggio; three sisters: Rosie Maggio, Gracie Maggio and an infant sister.
There is no visitation. Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. Robinson-Lytle, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
