One night after an overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators, the Pens returned home to host the New York Islanders, and suffered their second straight loss in an overtime shootout, 4-3.
After a scoreless first period, the Pens got on the board first as Cameron Gaunce scored his first goal of the season at the 1:54 mark of the first. Nearly 3 minutes later, the Islanders’ Brock Nelson scored to tie it up. Anders Lee gave the Islanders the lead at the 9:18 mark, but Sidney Crosby scored his 42nd goal of the year at the 13:41 mark to tie it up. The Isles took the lead again with a goal from Casey Cizikas with five seconds to go in the second period. In the third, Matt Cullen tied it for the Pens with a goal at the 13:50 mark of the 3rd. No scores in the Overtime period, so it came down to a shootout, and John Tavares scored the eventual game-winner to give the extra point to the Islanders.
The Pens get a much-needed day off today before hosting the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday starting at 6:00 on U-92.5 FM and the U-92.5 Sports Channel
