Robert “Bob” Allen Buterbaugh, Jr., 69, of Glen Campbell, PA “East Run” died Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.
The son of Robert Allen Buterbaugh, Sr. and Erma (Lansberry) Buterbaugh Stumpf, he was born on December 12, 1947.
For more than 20 years, he was known as Mr. Buterbaugh, aka “Mr. B.,” to the English students he taught at Purchase Line High School. After his retirement from teaching, he could be found delivering letters and packages as a mailman for the U.S. Postal Service until he retired in October 2014.
Bob was a man of faith and a very active member of the Dixonville Weslyan Church, serving on the board and teaching Sunday school. You always knew where to find him if there was a Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates or Steelers game on.
Bob was always there to provide advice, guidance and assistance to anyone who needed it. Those who knew him will sorely miss his hugs, his sense of humor and his laughter.
He was a family man who loved being a husband and a father, but most of all he loved being Pap. Many of his days since his retirement were spent baby-sitting his three grandchildren, whom he adored.
Bob married his wife, Betty J. Gromley on December 1, 1973 and they celebrated 42 years of marriage together.
He is survived by his loving wife: Betty (Gromley) Buterbaugh of East Run, PA. His two daughters: Bree Hansen and husband Eric of West Deer, PA; Bethany Soltesz and husband Andrew of Pittsburgh, PA; three grandchildren: David, Berlyn and Emalyse Hansen; his mother, Erma Stumpf of East Run, PA; a sister, Debra (Buterbaugh) Miller and husband Ron of East Run, PA and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, friends and members of his church family.
Bob was preceded in death by his father and a brother, William “Lee” Buterbaugh.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4:00 and 7-9:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA, where an 11:00 a.m. committal service will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 with Pastor Paul Wallace officiating. Interment will be at East Mahoning Cemetery in Purchase Line, PA.
