The Blairsville-Saltsburg School District approved the district calendar for the next school year at last night’s meeting.
The district will continue to use early dismissals for students on Friday for the 2017-2018 school year, with the first student day on Wednesday, August 23rd in 2017 and the final student day on May 29th, 2018. The early dismissals have proven beneficial for teachers, according to acting superintendent Jeffrey Soles, as it gives teachers a chance to write curriculum and take part in professional development programs that are required by the state.
In other business, an item concerning two hour delays for teachers was tabled. The motion would have allowed teachers to also take a two-hour delay when one is issued for students when road conditions are bad. However, teachers would still have to report at their normal times if the two-hour delay was called for cold temperatures.
