Officials with IUP, Indiana Borough, White Township, the law enforcement community and other groups will meet today to finalize preparations for an upcoming unofficial “student event” on IUP’s campus.
The I-ACT group will hold a stakeholders meeting today at the KCAC. I-ACT, which stands for the Indiana Area Collaborative Team, was formed in 2014 in reaction to unofficial celebrations, locally known as I-U-Patty’s, that made headlines for unruly behavior among students and massive crowd sizes. The group itself is made up of several organizations ranging from law enforcement and local governments to property landlords and student organizations. Since the group first implemented their procedures at the 2014 IUP Homecoming, unruly behavior has tapered off at both Homecoming and I-U-Patty’s.
I-U-Patty’s was partly inspired by a similar celebration called “State Patty’s Day” in the State College area where students would celebrate with excessive drinking on campus as spring break traditionally fell during the St. Patrick’s day weekend.
