Peoples Natural Gas Company has filed a rate increase request with the Public Utility Commission. The company is asking for a rate hike of approximately 6.7 percent, to go into effect October 1st. The average homeowner’s monthly bill would increase from $75.63 to $83.14, based on 7,500 cubic feet of usage per month.
A Peoples spokesperson says the company expects the PUC to either add to or subtract from the rate that is being requested. The increase is in reaction to higher gas recovery costs. The PUC will schedule hearings to determine the appropriate rate and is expected to decide by September.
Peoples serves about 700,000 customers in eighteen Western Pennsylvania counties.
