From IUP Sports Information
IUP sophomore guard Dante Lombardi posted career-highs of 26 points and 12 assists to lead the Crimson Hawks to a 94-80 win over Kutztown in the opening round of the NCAA Atlantic Regional on Saturday night at Joe Retton Arena.
The fourth-seeded Crimson Hawks improve to 28-3 overall on the year, and advance to the program’s 12th all-time regional semifinal appearance.
Lombardi shot 9-of-12 from the floor, pacing a hot-shooting Crimson Hawks team that put together arguably their best offensive performance of the season.
IUP shot nearly 58 percent from the floor, drained 14-of-24 from three-point range, and converted 14-of-16 from the foul line. The 94-point output is the second most in a game this year for the Crimson Hawks.
Lombardi didn’t have the only double-double, as sophomore Jacobo Diaz finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds for his 14th on the season.
The Crimson Hawks take on host team Fairmont State in the semifinals at 7:30 pm. Airtime on U92.5 FM and U92.5 Sports Channel is 7 pm.
