As the IUP basketball teams prepare for PSAC semifinal games Saturday afternoon, the league announced the all-star players Friday.
IUP sophomore Cobo Diaz was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year. Diaz averaged 14 points and 9.9 rebounds per game in addition to ranking second in the league with 12 double-doubles in 29 contests.
Joining Diaz on the first team is another sophomore, Dante Lombardi. Junior Anthony Glover made the second team.
Shippensburg’s junior Dustin Sleva is the East Athlete of the Year.
Adding to the accolades, Coach Joe Lombardi was named West Coach of the Year for a third time and his former assistant Chris Fite of Shippensburg is the East Coach of the Year.
On the women’s side, three IUP players made the second team: Sophomores Carolyn Appleby and Lauren Wolosik and junior Megan Smith, marking the first time in four years IUP has placed at least three players on the 12-member squad.
Both teams play Shippensburg Saturday at 3:30 P.M. The men at the KCAC, the women at Shipp. Pre-games are at 3p.m., with the men’s game on U92.5 FM and the U925 SPORTSCHANNEL and the women on 1160 WCCS-101.1 FM.
